2017 is well and truly here, as we finish the second week of January. Seriously where did that week go already?!?! As each year passes, I swear time speeds up! There’s no more wishing away the hours as I did as a child, eager to grow up and do “all the things”. I don’t mind growing older, it doesn’t phase me, but I do mind wasting away too many precious days, weeks and months. I want there to be special memories and look back knowing I lived my life with love and laughter. That I squeezed in a half hour of craft with the kids when they asked, even if we only had an hour spare, instead of plonking in front of the tv to kill the time. That I sat outside with them or played a board game, completely present, instead of leaving them to it. I want to bring more of these moments into life, make it colourful and slow down in those moments of reprieve from the chaos.
The kids and I went to a local pool last week. Myself, a 7yo, a 3.5yo and a 10mo, at 3pm in the arvo, to get out of the house and have some fun. Usually I’d be like “How will I get dinner sorted in time if we take too long?”, “How can I enjoy myself with 3 kids in tow by myself?”, “I’ve too much cleaning left to do for the rent inspection tomorrow”, but instead, I thought bugger it! We’re going to have some fun! And fun it was! Little Miss Kayla napped in her pram for the first 45 minutes, so I could splash with the elder two and go round and round the water slide with my excited 3yo, who found his new favourite thing to do. I didn’t care that I was getting constantly splashed in the face by children running by, I was dripping head to toe. I didn’t care what the clock said, I knew I had some snacks, that could tide the kids over with in the car on the way home, so preparing dinner wasn’t so frantic and I knew I could just stay up late to finish the cleaning, it wasn’t going anywhere. This is the type of moments I want to create more of, so it’s going on my dream board for 2017.
I have lots of little areas I want to create change or enrich more and as we begin a new year, we have a great opportunity to focus on letting go of the old and manifesting the new. Automatically, many people’s minds flicker straight to “New Years Resolutions”, those vague promises to lose some weight, be happier, drink less, yada yada yada. It’s a well-meaning exercise, but it lacks the substance and intention of creating goals and defining them. So without getting all “S.M.A.R.T” (goal setting term that’s really useful, but kinda dull), let me share how I’m manifesting my desires in 2017.
This is a beautiful ritual that I created for a client recently and that I will be completing myself at the next New Moon. With the use of crystals, essential oils, meditation, writing and the “drawing in” energy of the new moon, it allows you to open your heart and mind to the desires and dreams, that you would like to create in your life. You can complete it at anytime, but with the waxing (new-full) moon, when energies are focused on new beginnings and growth, is a great time to really get in the zone.
If possible set up outside, use the sounds of nature and connect with the earth. Set down a blanket or rug, cushions, table and chair, whatever you need to be comfortable.
Have with you ~
- Essential oils, carrier oil and a small dish to create a blend
- Manifestation box or bowl, to store your written intentions
- Crystals (citrine for abundance, quartz points to amplify, green adventurine for new beginnings etc)
- Pieces of paper and pen for writing your manifestations. Something to press on while you write
- Dress in a way that inspires you to connect within
Sit quietly once the light has begun to leave for the day. Light your candles and arrange your things so they are close to hand.
First take your oils and place them in front of you. Close your eyes and visualise the support you seek to allow you to take action and bring into life those things that make it meaningful. When you feel ready, open your eyes and allow your intuition to choose 2, 3 or 4 that you are drawn to. These will become your manifestation blend. Using your small dish, add one drop of each and a small amount of carrier oil. Apply a small amount to each chakra, starting with the base and working towards the crown. Connect in to the sensations you feel in each energy centre. Inhale the aroma from your hands and breathe deeply into the abdomen. Release any tension as you exhale.
Now take the crystals you have chosen and hold the gently in your hands. Close your eyes and walk through your perfect day, the things that make your heart sing and the desires you wish to manifest through the next year. Move your focus to your breathe and take the time to relax and meditate, with the energy of the moon. When you feel ready, right your manifestations and intentions and place them into your box.
Now, take your journal and write down your experience from the ritual, the feelings that arose, the energy you felt.
Vision boards or dream boards, are a fabulous way to be visually inspired about the things you’d love to do, achieve or bring in to your life. They give you a visual reminder of what is important to you and what brings you joy. Cut pictures from magazines, print them from the internet, add inspiring quotes, stickers, pockets to add little notes or intentions, pegs if you’d like to have the flexibility to add and remove. Here’s a few categories to consider when creating your charmed life
“You are 42% more likely to achieve your goals when you write them down!”
Write it down
How many of us think about our goals and what we’d like to achieve, but don’t write it down? How many of those goals just fizzle away and never eventuate? There is infinite power in writing down your goals. Here’s some nerdy statistics to show you WHY you NEED to write down your hearts desires.
In 1979 a study took place measuring goals and success of new Harvard Graduates:
- 84% had no specific goals at all
- 13% had goals, but they were not committed to paper
- A mere 3% had clear, written goals and plans to accomplish them.
10 years later, the same graduates were interviewed again:
- The 13% who had goals, were earning, on average, twice as much as the 84% who had no goals at all.
- The 3% who had clear, written goals were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other 97% put together!
Another study showed that simply by writing down your goals, you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals. That’s MASSIVE! So get out your journal, sit down with a cuppa in a quiet space and put pen to paper.
Make 2017 yours, make your dreams a reality, live a creative, charmed and fulfilling life.
